Dig Deep! The 42nd Leitz Photographica Auction Is Set To Take Place In June

The 42nd Leitz Photographica Auction has been announced and will take place at Leica Cameras Headquarters in Wetzlar, Germany on the 9th and 10th June 2023.

This year’s theme focuses on photos from iconic photographers and the cameras that they used. The collection includes images and equipment from John Bulmer, Walker Evans and Terry O’Neill – the latter being an assortment of celebrated film star portraits which shed light on the mysteries of Hollywood.

British designer and artist Johnny Dowell (AKA King Nerd), who specialises in bespoke engravings, embellished a Leica MP with the image of Planet Earth as the relationship between art and technology is the theme for the second day of the Auction.

Other auction highlights are John Bulmer’s iconic imagery of his childhood in the north of England, alongside his Leica M3 Black M3, as well as a Leica M2 Black paint that belonged to Walker Evans who used it for over ten years to capture some of his most famous works.

Leitz Photographica Auction 42 will take place over two days at Leitz Park in Wetzlar. On 9th June, the “Modern Times” photography auction takes place and on 10th June, the auction of historical cameras will follow. Bids can be submitted in advance online, in written form or by telephone.

Estimated bids are listed now on the Leica Auction website with one camera estimated at 300,000 to 350,000 Euros.
